The Albert Shanker Institute
The Albert Shanker Institute, named in honor of the late president of the American Federation of Teachers, is a nonprofit organization dedicated to three themes—children's education, unions as advocates for quality, and freedom of association in the public life of democracies. AFT-Africa AIDS Project
The AFT-Africa AIDS Project—a multi-year, multi-country project—provides African teachers with the resources and support they need to develop effective peer-education programs to combat the spread of HIV/AIDS, along with counseling and care for those who are sick. Building on a long tradition of international professional and union collaboration, African teachers' unions and the AFT are acting as catalysts to create a self-sustaining network of trained HIV/AIDS peer-educators and counselors in African schools. Center for Childcare Workforce (CCW)
Founded in 1978 as the Child Care Employee Project, CCW is a nonprofit research, policy and advocacy organization. CCW has been the lead organization nationally in the call for improving child care jobs. Its influential reports and surveys have documented the clear link between the quality of child care jobs and the quality of child care services. CCW's mission is to improve the quality of child care by upgrading the compensation, working conditions and training opportunities for child care teachers and family child care providers.
